What we are doing
Together with Las Omas Civil Association, we are brewing a productive unit of construction services and precast elements, directed to women from Camino a Chacra de la Merced. This project seeks to favor economic independence and foster self-employment of women who are in situations of extreme social vulnerability. At the same time, we try to break with social and cultural paradigms that present the construction business as a male-only sphere, a situation that creates even greater social and work access asymmetries.
Why
Camino a Chacra de la Merced is a peri-urban area with precarious settlements and environmental pollution caused by tannery, mining and the sewage plant in Córdoba city. Besides, there is an absence of basic public services that creates a situation of great social and economic vulnerability. Most women from Camino a Chacra de la Merced who participate in Las Omas Civil Association do not have a stable economic income, or a job or access to formal education. Many of them are head of the houseold and must ensure the family income.
With the implementation of this project, we will:
-
Facilitate job-placement for women from Chacra de la Merced.
-
Train and transfer construction technologies to socially excluded women, who suffer gender violence and poverty.
-
Strengthen Las Omas Civil Association to plan, run and manage the productive unit.
-
Promote gender equality in the construction business.
