People involved

Students from the Energy and Sustainable Development Advanced Course from the Department of Engineering and Technological Research (DIIT) at National University of La Matanza (UNLaM) and Engineering Without Borders Argentina (EWB-Ar), UNLaM Social Observatory, Hacono, Acindar Foundation.

What we are doing

We are building 8 wood rocket stoves for soup kitchens, as part of the workshops in the Energy and Sustainable Development Advanced Course. The project is carried out by the UNLaM and the Social Observatory from UNLaM thanks to the “Convocatoria Ingeniamos”, a funding of the Acindar Foundation. After installing the rocket stoves, the community will receive the corresponding training for their use and functioning.

Why?

We hope to contribute to the strengthening of community networks in the area as a result of the exchange between the local participants. Furthermore, we wish that organized women who work at the soup kitchens grow stronger as change agents in their communities. Also, the technology chosen aims to incorporate sustainable practices that contribute to environmental justice.
As regards the group of students participating in the project, we hope that they will improve their competences for a job with complex social difficulties.

With the realization of this project, we:

  • Support social organizations through the implementation of a technology that considers available and affordable sources of energy.
  • Stimulate the students’ commitment with the reality of the place where they belong to, favoring community oriented professional training.
  • Facilitate technological transfer and community knowledge through the articulated work of different institutional actors.
