What we have done
We built a daycare center for “La Cárcova” neighborhood constructed from industrial left overs. The purpose of this work was to facilitate the daily life of families by constructing an environment of support and socialization and a Day-care center intended especially for children. Also, workers of “Aberturas JR” carpenter’s shop (project in which we collaborated) participated in order to foster the integration among different neighborhood organizations and promote community partnerships.
Why
La Cárcova is a neighborhood affected by structural, environmental, and social problems which are intertwined in a complex manner Single-parent families live in situations of extreme vulnerability: mothers are prevented from obtaining formal employment due to the lack of a support environment for their young children. This situation alters family dynamics, gives way to instability and affects forthcoming opportunities for the neighborhood children and teenagers.
