WHAT WE HAVE DONE

We built two bridges over two of the Salado River canals to ease the access of the community. The two bridges were made of reinforced concrete and they are 12 meters long and 6 meters wide, and 6 meters long and 6 meters wide, respectively.  To achieve our purpose, we worked on the elaboration of engineering detail, the financial management, and the coordination, realization, and supervision of the project, which was completely carried out by a team composed of local workforce, EWB-Switzerland and EWB-AR volunteers, and other organizations and institutions.

WHY

The precariousness of rural roads and bridges caused 500 people to be isolated.  This situation made access difficult to reach the school and urban centers and for  the supply of goods, water provision by tank truck, commercial transportation of surplus agricultural outputof subsistence economies, and the passage of ambulances and road machinery.

WITH THIS PROJECT WE:

  • Reduced isolation by enhancing accessibility.
  • Facilitated the provision of drinking water to the community.
  • Guaranteed the circulation of road construction machinery, ambulances, and other means of transport.
  • Reduced the itinerary and travel time for the supply of goods, thus reducing costs.
  • Promoted the improvement of internal roads as well as the access road to Route 92, by building gravel roads.
